Our Story
Welcome to Minerva
Named Best Bookstore in Metro Magazine’s Best of Wellington 2021, and unique in New Zealand, Minerva is a gem of a bookshop offering the widest and most diverse selection of textile and handcraft books in the country. A range of boutique textile and lifestyle magazines plus a selection of hand-dyed threads, felts, stitching kits and handcrafted gifts completes the textile lover’s shopping experience.
Goddess of wisdom and handcrafts who Ovid described as the “Goddess of a thousand works”, Minerva is a bright cheerful shop with friendly and knowledgeable staff led by Anne Scott. A former librarian and founder and editor of New Zealand Quilter magazine for 25 years, Anne’s contribution was recognised in 2018 when she was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) for services to quilting.

A haven for textile lovers
Since opening in 2008, Minerva has established a reputation as a storehouse of knowledge with something for everyone. Besides specialty textile books, magazines and kits sourced from small publishers and creatives around the world, Minerva also stocks a curated selection of modern fiction and non-fiction alongside a growing number of children’s picture books. At Minerva you will also find stunning calendars and jig saw puzzles and an unsurpassed range of beautiful cards.
Located in the vibrant Cuba Quarter, known for its boutique and independent shops, Minerva is midway between Vivian and Abel Smith Streets, just off the motorway.
